Nagaoka MP50 versus MP500

I've just spent some time comparing the older MP50 and the current MP500 carts, mounted on a 12 inch Origin Live tonearm on a Technics SP10 MK2 table. Both carts had the JN-P500 stylus, whose lower compliance (versus the original MP50 stylus) better matches the mass of my tonearm. To my ears, the MP50 retrieves a bit more detail, and does so in a slightly smoother, more "analog" way. Owners of the MP50 who have gone to tonearms better suited to medium compliance carts should not fret about fitting the MP50 with the JN-P500 stylus. I found conflicting specs for the MP50 on the net regarding output, but the actual Nagaoka documents state 2.5 mV, with the MP500 listed as 3 mV. They are somewhat different carts, which likely explains the differences I hear. Both make fine music, and some may prefer the slightly bolder presentation of the MP500. The MP50 is, by no means, soft or laid back.
