Rega Planar 3 or Pink Triangle Tarantella with a RB300?

My Dad presently uses a late 80s Rega Planar 3 with RB300 tonearm with, from memory, a Goldring MM cartridge of some sort (I think its the 10-- series). He has been offered a fully functional and very tidy, armless Pink Triangle Tarantella from someone who took the RB300 that was fitted to it and used that arm on their newer turntable. Obviously the RB300 from my Dad's Planar 3 would be a drop in replacement and I was wondering what, if any, gains in sound would he get if he switched? I don't know PT decks at all and I know Dad has been pretty happy with the Planar 3, and he's had it for about 15-20 years and kept it nice/serviced in that time, so it would be a shame to spend the money if there isn't much gain in sound quality.

Can anyone offer any opinions/comparisons between the Planar 3 and the Tarantella?

Thanks.
