so that the bottom ends up about two feet from the wall or expected final location. In addition, I make sure each row of construction is tight against the previous row before proceeding. I either use the heel of my palm or a rubber mallet to achieve this tightness.
Then check the archives for all the different methods of bracing on the back as well as the attachment to the wall. John Ellison also mentions alternative ways to install the unit above the floor moulding to make sure the unit is flush up to the wall.
I personally brace the entire back with 3/16" birch ply(my Expedit is birch colored)and add a small spacer between the back of the shelf and the wall where the unit is screwed against the wall. The spacer is the same thickness as the floor moulding. Because my Expedit is on carpet, I add yardsticks under the front leading edge to match the height of the carpet tack strips at the base of the wall. I also delay tightening the wall screws until all the records are placed on the shelf figuring that the Expedit will sink into the carpet due to the weight.
While I was able to lift up the assembled unit myself, it was near my strength limit. For us smaller folks, it would be nice to have one more person for this final lift.
