RE: How Important is Stylus Shape?

Bob ("Hesson")...Indeed, I'm surprised about Fremer's comments about VTA/SRA whilst recognising he was on a 92 degree "crusade" at the time.
Personally I think Azimuth is more critical. Although my tonearm can give precise adjustment of VTA I've often been too lazy to change the setting and have often been happy with 120g and 180g sharing the same setting even though I can hear slight differences.

For example, warps can be 2X or 3X the height of a 120g but you'll seldom find anyone complaining that they can hear the effect of the warp on the music when reading the groove with a line contact stylus. ;^)
Azimuth on the other hand is something I would actually lose sleep over.

It's funny but decades ago the consensus among industry pundits was that a "tail-down" VTA attitude was claimed to provide the best average for typical LPs.
