RE: Rothwell Rialto and Simplex

Hi Andy,

Thank you for the input and advice. The Rothwells are pretty affordable, the Rialto is under $600, and the Simplex is under $500. The Simplex is a Rialto less the MC capability and as I mentioned to spin, I would likely use a stepup for MC. I agree the fixed loading is a limitation, however not an uncommon one at this price point. Some others in this range, for example the SimAudio Moon 110LP, only offer a few coarse adjustments for load and gain. What sparked my interest in the Rothwells is that they are a discrete design made in the UK. Most models at this price point (the Moon for example) are opamp based, not neccessarily a bad thing, but this does make the Rothwells somewhat unique. Hagerman is definately on my short list, the Cornet is one I am considering. I am also considering the Parks Audio Budgie, it has fixed gain but very flexible loading options. I've also been watching the used market, I can almost swing for an Audio Research PH3 but that is a bit out of the budget. The VSE unit you mention wasn't even on my radar, thank you for tge tip :) I think it may be over budget also but it looks like a nice unit.

Matt
