RE: "It's all about the music and the performance..."

Maybe, or maybe not. "IT" is almost surely about the actual music to some degree but IT is almost never 100% "all about the music" in any recording.

Sometimes producers and recording engineers like to get creative and sometimes they HAVE to get creative. If/when a recording becomes so infused with creativity, IT cannot be only about the actual music anymore. IT is about the art in/of the recording itself, to one degree or another.

There is almost no way live music can ever sound the way music sounds on some recordings and on other recordings the replications seem quite real. No matter though. You simply play the record - and maybe you'll accept and cherish what the recording engineers have to say as being *truthful*, or *delightful*, or *wonderfully weird & crazy*, etc.., - or maybe you'll diss the effort entirely. Your decision matters to no one but you.

One thing is highly likely, though. If/when a live musical event is represented or depicted on a recording in the manner of a "white lie", as a total fabrication, or in any other "creative" or untruthful manner it probably doesn't matter that much if the recording is AAA, or digital. What matters in reality is that everything seems to sound OK on your system somehow... or anyhow.
