Sounds like it is a bit similar to some of the 'full-function' preamps of the late '70s ~early '80s -
The Mitsubishi DA-P20
Beveridge RM1/2
etc,
These units were capable of Multitasking-
Taping one input whilst listening to another-

Probably pretty straight forward to use -
you might need to open it up to see how to change the loading - that was always a challenging feature to offer the public...
