TT advice sought...

not for me but I've put off getting back into vinyl long enough so maybe I'll follow up myself. I got an email from a friend who mistakenly thinks I know anything about this. But I know who to ask! So, here's his note to me. Any recs? he's not a huge audio spender guy, so the setups with $5k cartridges etc.. But his daughters are a sister band and are putting out vinyl, so he has an incentive. (they are a great little punky alt teen show and getting better all the time. They draw good crowds here and are on the bill with other groups all over the west and further out).

here's his note:

"I'm getting ready to buy a new turntable. I am sick and tired of having problems with my vintage/garage sale equipment.

I'm not going audiophile but I kind of know what I think I want . . . I like the Pro-ject Debut Carbon but I really need semi automatic because that is just the way I listen to music. I need it to turn off when I'm finished. I have visited the crazy guy at Turntables Unlimited and I really like the looks and price of the Marantz TT-42 ($329). They also have a Marantz SR4023 Receiver that I am also interested in but I also am interested in a receiver with Apple Play (I think thats what its called) .. . Anyway, I would be interested in any input you might provide."

Any ideas on where to point him will be appreciated by him and me!
