Back in the 1980s many radio stations were selling off their record collections. Boston, a college town with several excellent college stations and with many well stocked record stores, was a great place to find used records in good condition. Naturally, many of these records had the "not for resale" label and many also had all sorts of notes on the records and the jackets.
I think that another way of looking at this is those records are a fun artifact of the time when stations actually played a diverse range of music and played real records and not tape. Many times we would hear records pop, tick and skip and sometimes the DJ would be on a bathroom break and the record would skip for a minute or two. So you might look at those times with a little more understanding and appreciation of the fact that others listened to those albums and enjoyed them and the records themselves each have a history.
The original owner might even have been doing their algebra homework while listening to the Beatles. In fact, you might say that an album cover with some girl's name on it, and a doodle of her puppy, and her boyfriend's name in flowering script, is more "authentic" as a collector's item than a pristine copy that was only handled with cotton gloves. Nobody knew 40 years ago that records would be collector's items with lavish attention paid to their preservation. I think it adds to the value that many of them come with a little history; it makes them more interesting.
