It is the rate of cooling that is important - removing the VF from the pouch will increase the rate of cooling relative to disconnecting the power supply and leaving the VF inside the pouch.
If you really want to ensure that the records retain the new "flat" state, don't be in a rush to play the record at the earliest opportunity!
