Thanks Des - I met a couple of guys here who are in some sort of vinyl club as well as crate diggers or some such thing. Got their e-mails and will contact them. They also mentioned the 13th floor of the Sino building in Mongkok for the affordable $50HKD variety.
I recently did a preamp shootout of Melody's top preamp, A Rogue Audio preamp and Line Magnetic preamp and score the three in that order. The Melody preamp was big on tone and layering with much improved bass. I was pleased that my LM 219IA served as an excellent chameleon as all three preamps made rather dramatic changes to the sound - quite surprising.
Still the Audio Note M3 Phono is the leader because it has an actual tube phono stage, more features, and the best resale value - and an obvious synergy with the the TT2 and AN E speakers and AN cables that I have. But it's expensive for me. But I do get my 2 year contract bonus next month and we'll see how I do playing poker in Las Vegas at the end of July.
The more important thing is the music - the prices in HK are steep - I have ordered some LPs online that even with shipping comes well under what is being charged here. Granted so far I have been to HMV and IFC which are huge rent so I can't blame them. HMV is taking up nearly half the top floor for vinyl next month - they apparently have bought up 10,000 second hand LPs so we'll see what the prices are like.
