The arm is balanced in all planes and tracking force is applied by spring.
Seeburg Jukeboxes played this way starting in 1948 to the end.
Balanced in all planes with tracking force applied by spring is also what allowed arms like the ESL, Empire etc.
and turntables like Miracord and Dual etc. to advertise that the record could
be played upside down.
