On this particular table, Teres 255, it sounds better to me than the others I tried(granite, sand box with a platform, composite MDF/Balticbirch with still points, and huge corian tiles with steel risers).
It is 3 inch thick maple block, composite, not solid as warping will be an issue. I use wood glue then walnut stain After that, few coats of lacquer then hand rubbed. I had this set up 10 years and counting. The plinth stand on BDR risers so small/minor adjustment for leveling is not a concern.
Hope it works for you!
