RE: Your thoughts on maple platforms

About 15 years ago we replaced the glass shelves on a friend's multi-level rack with maple blocks. A general large improvement for all components on the rack. However the turntable was on a separate dedicated support table.

The situation with supporting turntables is not straightforward and the results are difficult to predict. This is because for many turntables the plinth is either effectively part of the suspension (e.g. Linn LP12) or acts to provide some form of isolation. What the plinth is stood upon becomes part of this although some designs try to eliminate this coupling by the use of decoupling feet. Depending upon the design heavy and dense maple can either assist or be the opposite of what is required.

I'm afraid that you will just have to try and see. Currently it appears from your comment that perhaps maple is not best suited for you.
