The platter with its acrylic and encapsulated shot pockets and strobe pattern kinda remind me of a.....(you guess)
Maxon DC motor. A Swiss company. These motors are obtainable from Maxon Motors in California. Last I checked the price was not prohibitive.

Unless I'm mistaken, the Maxon DC motor will have precious metal brushes. So figure some ultimate limit to the motor life span. Also figure that the motor, over time, will require some lubrication. (how do I know this....? I've owned a Teres that used a Maxon DC motor)
anyway, Mikey likes the way it sounds, but not so much the way it measures for speed consistency.
Price is reasonable. Perhaps worth a look.
