As suggested check your local Craigslist for a vintage Japanese table, either belt or direct drive for under $100 and probably well under $100. If the kid looses interest you should be able to get all your money back. You will loose most of your money on a new table, just about all of the new ones in this price range and higher aren't much better than toys for a 5yo.
