Had both a Garrard 301 (not exactly a 401) and a Lenco L75. Both unrestored. After doing a lot of reading and picking a lot of brains, I sold the 301, which was worth about $1500, and restored the Lenco, for which I had paid $300 in mint condition. After replacing the plinth with a slate one, adding a PTP top plate and a huge after market bearing system, I am very pleased with my decision. Still don't have $1500 in it, total.
