Hi Paully,If you daughter is not primarily an audiophile and you want to create the experience an old RCA player is probably the best choice. They were and are available as just changers or complete record players with speakers.
I gave an eBay linc. You can see these things in action on U-tube. They can be had for very little money on eBay not working or for a good bit more restored. Figure about $100 for a cartridge and rubber parts. They are not all the hard to work on and the parts are available from Voice of Music.
The later RP 190 is the simpler machine and is the one which I restored. It will change records rapidly but if you want blazing speed and have the nerve to tackle a more complicated RP 168 it can drop a record and be playing it in one revolution of the platter.
There is a guy named Chris Cuff who posts on U-tube who restores and sells these players. I'm pretty sure he will do yours if you get in over your head.
