RE: Alternative fix to rewire - Audioquest PT6

The patch will work, but it will have very slightly lowered performance, IMHE. Not a great amount but depending o the cartridge you use, a very slight blurring. Then again I always split the ground wire from the Left negative which is standard for something like the Rega arms for similar reasons.

As funds permit, rewire the PT-6. Mechanically, its quite stout and being a medium mass tonearm is probably more compatible with more cartridges than a Rega. Rewiring should cost about $200, at least it does in my neck of the woods.

Before doing anything, loosen the side set screws on the arm pillar. I can't remember butt there may be two small allen screws. You can then pull the DIN plug out from the bottom check the soldering to the pins, a wire may have broken off ( rare but possible)

From the bottom of the arm ( turned upside down, of course) there is a screw holding the L shaped bracket which goes over the center pivot and has the adjustment for damping ( if you use the fluid). Remove that and you will see a well inserted in the main body of the pivot. The well is plastic and press fitted so you can carefully pry the well out without affecting bearing adjustment.

Since the well covers the wires making the turn down from the horizontal arm to the horizontal pivot, any break should be right at the turn. There is a bit of leeway to pull the wires gently out and examine them.

Good luck
