Yes! The KISS(keep it simple stupid) method has always worked the best for me as well. I am all done with the changing this, moving that, etc. and so on. I just like to kick back and play. I still like to build every once in a while but now whenever I need something built I have mad good contacts to do it for me.ow the fun of the DIY hobby is the actual building but not so for me any more. I like plug an play. I know it costs to get that but to me my time is more valuable doing something I like better. Listening!
The quest for better sound is questionable at best. Who determines that anyway. The only one that can is us. And I have found over the years that there are differences form this to that but not enough to drive me crazy and need the latest and greatest.
Changing cables, speaker wires, preamps, amps, speaker, TT's, tonearms, cartridges, etc. brings certain things to the table. But at what expense and what are we doing to ourselves other than driving ourselves crazy.+
I once asked a friend and good musician(guitar player mainly)who his favorite musician was. His answer was himself. He was his favorite musician. He never said he was his best musician, just his favorite.
Same thing with my system. I think mine is my favorite. Might not be the best but who determines what "the best" is?
