I did a little test today. I ripped a CD track to my PC on WAV format and copied it to a USB stick. USB stick into my Yamaha CD-N500 streamer. The original CD into my 1988/89 Sony X7ESD CDP.
The difference was not subtle. The Sony had way more oomph in the bass and the soundstage was deeper. So a midfi streamer anno now is killed by an over 25 year old CDP. You would have to buy a new high end streamer to equal a really good CDP. Plus a PC, tablet, network and router, network HDD, maybe a separate DAC...
