The real price of things

Not hard set...but assume that the hard value of anything that you end up buying is about 1/4 or 1/3 of what you paid for it. the rest is the toll takers fees along the way to your doorsteps. If you would sell what you make you would have to set the MSRP for 3 to 4 times what it cost you to make it in packaging, overhead, time and materials to stay in business. If you look at something as complicated as a turntable or a tonearm , unless you are looking at real cheap ass or real mass market implementations, the 4 to 5K range is not that outrageous for well engineered and quality made item.
