Just got back from a walk in my remote small town in NW Netherlands. A visit to a thrift store , 2 Cd's for 1 euro per, Brian Setzer Orchestra and Dwight Yoakam. Yesterday a pile of 12 for 1 euro per, Coldplay, Black Eyed Peas, Tori Amos, Freddie Mercury, Neil Young etc. Good used vinyl in the local thrifts is a thing of the past. Been there, done that and i'm glad i did.
The masses dumped their vinyl collections in the 80s and 90s and replaced them with new CD's for 40 Hfl (20 euro) in 80s/90s money. Add 25 years of inflation. Now they're dumping their CD collections to buy the same music again...on vinyl! DMM digitally remastered vinyl. And "high resolution" digital downloads taken from the same 16/44.1 CD masters. The record companies ROTFL.
Most musicians didn't make any money in the "good" old days and they still don't. Spotify don't pay. They have to finance their studio recordings via crowdsourcing nowadays.
