Fronting a big band. When the first soloist blew, I and another American let out a whoop. The mostly-French crowd looked at us like we'd killed a kitten - they approached it like a classical concert - reserved and polite. During a break, i went up to Terry and asked him if the difference in reaction between American and French audiences was disconcerting. He said no, he dug it.
