I am looking to add some vibration isolation to my Technics SP-10/Steve Dobbins plinthed TT. For systems that are air based (Vibraplane type), what are the advantages for an active system vs passive besides not needing to refill the unit over time?
I was thinking about either a Thorlabs Isoplate or a DIY system made from 3 Newport Compact Isolators and some sort of mass loading (damped granite perhaps) to get the system close to the load limit. I already have a Nitrogen tank to run the system.
Both are around the same price ($1,000) but the Thorlabs is passive and would need close to 400 pounds load to get it to optimal.
Stillpoints ultras are even more expensive as are some of the non-air based platforms.
Thanks

- Vibraplane is not active isolation, it's passive with active leveling; this is active isolation.... - mikel 18:46:29 01/27/15 (0)
