The comments about the type 111 being more sought after today but the Type 11 still being a good cartridge ring true to me also.
I've read enough about how the quality of the Shure replacement styli went down once they were made in Mexico to believe there's some truth to that too so a Jico or other quality replacement is probably a good way to go.
I had a new type 11 back in the day and it didn't sound as good as I thought it should but I continued to use it anyway as my financial resources at age 20 were limited.
One day I was looking trough some audio magazines and I found a review of the type 11 that said it needed to be loaded with 400pf.
I figured that was an easy try to I soldered 200pf silver micas across the phono inputs and the tonal quality that bothered me was gone.
