Those are interesting choices because it would depend on who was going to be using the turntable.

If it was my 28 year old nephew-in-law, I'd give the Thorens with a Goldring 1012 GX. (It's one of my cartridges that doesn't get much use anymore so I'd let it go knowing it would be put to good use.) He'd be thrilled and appreciative to have such a great setup. I'd include two Mo-Fi cleaning brushes with Mo-Fi Super Record Wash, a carbon-fiber brush, a stylus brush, and give him my Shure SFG-2 gauge. I'd show him how to set up the cartridge and how to clean records with the cleaner and distilled water.

Otherwise, if it's to a complete newby, I'd probably give the Techics with an Audio-Technica AT95E cartridge and throw in a Nitty Gritty record cleaning brush and some DIY alcohol solution.
