Welcome Licorice Pizza (LP) lovers! Setup guides and Vinyl FAQ.

If it has not been tuned/serviced for a long time...

Get a tune up by a qualified Linn set up person.

New belt, felt mat, cleaning motor capstan as well as inspect and readjust suspensions etc.. would go a long way without spending a ton of money. All those expensive add ons would be a waste if the table is out of tune.

Pay attention to a placement of the table. (Give it a light and ridged support, if not, add a Trampoline 2, much better than the original Trampoline if the table needs to go on a mass support )

You'll be surprised that simple upkeeps yield excellent results for a Sondek without spending a small fortune.

VPI seems to be a sensible choice in the US for dollar to dollar, but they do not have the same voicing of a Sondek. ( OTOH, people like them because they don't sound like a stock LP12. )
