I mounted my SME 312S in a similar overhanging manner on the custom wood plinth of my ROK B-12H idler. It looks a little better because the wood is more integrated.

In my case, with the idler setup, I found the noise isolation and sound to be much better with the Riggle VTAF under my arm. It is a bit a of a pain to rebuild the input wiring of the SME tonearm but worth it in my case. You could use the VTAF in the present mounting pod but you would need to drill and tap two holes for the clamp screws.
