Please read as the premise of WTF has changed for the holiday.

Since this is the season of giving, this week’s WTF is all about giving. This week you will pick a turntable to give to a friend or family member who has expressed an interest in getting into vinyl.

Both turntables pictured below have been fully refurbished and are mechanically perfect.

While the turntable is free, you will buy/supply the cartridge of your choice. Spend as much or as little as you want. You will then deliver and set up the table... and stuff the lucky recipient’s stocking with some vinyl essentials. Assume they have everything else they need and Santa is bringing them a nice phono stage.

Your choices are:

Technics SL-1600 – Fully Automatic

Thorens TD-145 – Semi Automatic

I will gift the Thorens TD-145, mount a Nagaoka MP-110 and stuff my friend’s stocking with Last #3 record cleaner, Last #4 stylus cleaner and Last #5 “Stylast” stylus treatment. Being very much in the giving spirit, I will also give my pal a nice, clean copy of Janis Ian’s “Breaking Silence” so he can immediately reap the benefits of vinyl.

So, which table will you give, what cartridge will you mount and what accessories will you include?
