I have noticed that my phono circuit tends to hum audibly, more so as volume increases. The music obscures it to some extent, but if you just raise the volume without a record playing you can really hear it, especially on the subwoofer. Turning off the sub reduces it, but it is still audible through the main speakers. Preamp is a McIntosh MX-130.
My table is a Roksan Xerxes X with a Rega RB900 arm. I understand that this arm does not have a dedicated ground wire to attach to the preamp chassis. I am thinking I will install a ground wire to the preamp and touch it to the tonearm to see if this has an effect.Anyhow, isn't there a procedure for installing a ground wire on a Rega arm?
Thanks!
Postscript: I should add that it is almost entirely on the left channel.

- Ah. The amp was being ground looped by the ground connection on the phono power cord. - Ralph 09:33:12 12/22/14 (0)
- first thing to do- swap the phono interconnect cables and see if the problem moves. - Ralph 08:59:55 12/19/14 (1)
