RE: Wooden floor dilemma!

Although there are a number of structural variables that haven’t been defined for us, in nearly every circumstance or arrangement (load bearing wall, partition wall, perpendicular to floor joists, parallel to floor joists, mid-span, etc) a turntable wall shelf should have lower footfall displacement than the flooring. There is even a fair chance that if your wall shelf is installed correctly and if your turntable suspension is properly set up and you have footfall problems your structural issues in this mounting location would be a problem for many turntables. To get an idea of your structural response get a small cup of water and monitor the surface response to footfalls when the cup is on the floor (or on floor mounted furniture) and then compare this with a the surface response to similar footfall with the cup on your shelf. If the surface response is similar you have a structural issue with either your wall or your shelf mounting. You may find that remounting your shelf to a 1x8 or 1x10 hardwood backer board that spans and is rigidly mounted to multiple wall studs will improve your turntable shelf performance. The more details you can provide, the more on point insights and experience asylum members can provide. There are also a number of constructive threads on the vinyl asylum, vinyl engine, and audiokarma for setting up suspended tables and addressing footfalls (checking or adjusting springs, using foam inserts, shelves, etc). Hopefully you can address footfall issues with the AR table and then base your decision on going to another table based on your tastes concerning the performance of different tables.
