I do not know which TD124 you have, MKI or MKII. The MKI has a much heavier Platter(more material). But for both of them, there is a sub-platter(aluminum) on top of it, then the mat.
Are the people talking about the "attraction" using the table without the sub-platter? I have two TD124's(MKI and MKII). I used MC's and MM's(even the infamous Grado where you can see write up of this phenomenon online) and never had issues with platter "attraction" per se. IMHO, I think you need a much more stronger magnet in the cart for that attraction to happen. Maybe in the order of a couple of Teslas he,he. In that case, what you have is not a phono cartridge anymore, but an MRI machine(Just kidding!)
