Funk Firm Flamenca

I have had my new Funk Firm for 2 weeks now, and I am extremely happy with it. I got the first one that my dealer received. I took my Rega RP1 with performance pack in to trade. I had already upgraded from the Rega cartridge to a Grado Sonata, so the Rega cart and table went together and the Grado went on the Funk Firm. The Funk Firm has a unique tone-arm that is suspended by a thread. This makes for a very specialized set-up. In fact my dealer broke the first arm trying to get it set right. The second go around went easily though and he decided the first arm was defective. We listened to the Funk Firm-Grado combo through his reference system and the first impression was more than positive.
When I got it home and hooked up it sounded great right away. I couldn't believe it was the same cartridge playing. The word air gets used an awful lot in audio but that was the biggest difference. Imaging was so much better. The opening track to Joe Bonamassa's "Driving toward the light" has 3 different electric guitars layered over each other and each was easily audible and easy to locate. I always thought that the cartridge was the difference maker but now I know that the table has as much or more impact on the sound. Impact is a good word as the dynamics were also improved.
When I bought the turntable I also got the Akitamat and an HRS center weight-stabilizer. Both made noticeable improvements. It's played through my iphono, Macintosh pre and power amps and Clearfield Metropolitan speakers.
