Is a Yamaha YP-D6 about as good as a Tech. 1200?

A friend wants to get a tt for his non-audiophile brother for Christmas. I see the Yamaha in question on CL for $200 - looks to be in good shape. Whuddya think?
There are also a few Tech. 1200's listed, but without dustcover and not in as good shape cosmetically, and more $$$. BTW - what's the diff between 1200 and 1210? Just in case, does KAB or anybody sell inexpensive dust covers for Tech. 1200's?
