you might consider a Technics EPA 100. they show up pretty often in the $1200 range on ebay. Foxtan usually has one or two listed and he is reputable. One could not afford to manufacture one of those today and sell it for what an sme 309 sells for :). They were light years ahead of the competition back then. good on the fly adjustment of the VTA, and any sme style head-shell will fit it :)....
