I've had a similar thing happen several times with my HW 17f. Luckily, I found it to be an easily fixed problem. It's been a few years since it last happened, and I'm having trouble remembering exactly the steps that were involved...

I believe what I did was first remove the platter. Under the platter, I found there were two or three screws holding the spindle to the motor. Those screws had come loose. All I did was re- tighten those screws, then reattach the platter. After this, hundreds more records were cleaned before the problem popped up again.

My VPI RCM is 12 years old; it has cleaned probably 2000 records and it still works like brand new. Thing is build to last forever!
