if you have a copy of Royal Scam by steely dan, try playing cut two on either side, bot of which have high energy cymbals that may have been EQed a little hot.

if the stylus tracks these flawlessly then you don't need more vtf. increase until it tracks perfectly. i found that ADC XLMs needed 1.5 on most tonearms. i can't see earlier models being more capable.

just because the maker's recommendation is 1.0 doesn't make it so.
