Vinyl Asylum Welcome Licorice Pizza (LP) lovers! Setup guides and Vinyl FAQ. |

I am after some advice please guys. After reading advice here and elsewhere my playback system has evolved over time.
My current Vinyl set up is a Thorens 124 MKII in a heavy wood plinth. Fitted to this is an Apparition 12" wooden (Cocobolo) tone arm with a Denon DL103, retipped with a Shibata stylus on an Aluminium shank. The cartridge is uncased and fitted in to a Cocobolo body. This plays into Partridge transformers.
I have an option on a DL103r with damaged stylus which I will then get retipped.
The questions are, is the upgrade from 103 to 103r worthwhile?
What stylus upgrade would you recommend? Shibata, or Nude line or? Should I stick to an aluminium shank or go all out for ruby?
Indeed is all this modding of Denons worthwhile or should I just buy a better cartridge and not fiddle around so much.
I enjoy the punchy musical sound of the Denon and I'm looking for musicality rather than an analytical sound.
I welcome input from any one with experience of modding Denons.
