RE: The more shocking part is that they have a tube amp!

The VPI 299D is based on the Scott 299D circuit but is not the same thing.
Output tubes in the Scott were 7591's, in the VPI they're KT88's.
There is a phono input that will handle a cartridge down to .8mv.
The chassis is made "overseas", but the amp is built at the VPI factory in New Jersey.
The fit/finish/sq at the show was truly excellent.
