I want to send a replacement stylus for a Shure V15 Type III cartridge to my father in law, since his broke off over the weekend.I'm primarily looking at the Ed Saunders replacement at around $50 or the generic from KAB for $25. I think the $200 JICO is out of the budget.
MY QUESTION: if he slides in one of these replacement styli, will he have to remount the cartridge to get it properly aligned?
It would be great if he could just slide it in, since the table has a removable head shell. He's in a small town pretty far away from a specialist shop to remount it for him, and he doesn't have the physical dexterity to mount it himself at 92, even if he had the right tools.
ALSO: any opinions on the choice of replacement stylus is also very welcome?
