I had one of these; I don't really know how much that decoupled counterweight and damping helped, as I had a Shure V15 IV on it that had it's own 'damping' system.
It did sound 'OK', especially for the money, but it was built like all NAD mechanical things were -- like sh*t.
My biggest problem with it was that the rest of the system (hafler dh-110 and Musical Concepts modified DH-200 w/Maggie SMGa) was resolving enough that I could audibly hear rumble in the platter bearing -- if you can even call it a bearing. This was not due to feedback. On cassette tapes made on a NAK deck you could hear the rumble. I usually made the tapes with system volume turned down. I finally got tired of that rumble. And the auto shut-off was ripped out -- I didn't like the way the thing would shut off and the arm fly up at the end of a record. I even had some records that would still be playing for another minute or so when the thing shut off. I made it totally manual.
