I recently repaired an NAD 5120, and had forgotten how decent this cheapo TT could sound. $179 new in the mid 80's and eventually offered at clearance for $75 (retail !)
The tonearm is simply a piece of printed circuit board, but the key to its success was its unusual counterweight system. It incorporates damping via a plunger in a vat of silicone and an adjustable spring loaded mass. Pretty cool and it can be adjusted for literally any cartridge ever made.
I assume NAD had a patent. but the TT was made in the early-mid 80's and I would expect the patents to have expired by now. I see no utilization of the design however: talk about decoupling the counterweight!
