Back then Mercedes were driven here by Doctors wives, there, old men and taxi drivers. BMWs were famously unreliable, viz. the 2000 and 633 CSis.
Now they're driven here by anyone with $399/month, 36 months, $2000 due at signing.
Back when I could afford anything and cared a bit about cars I owned Saabs.
The only thing I understand about either marque is the now long-forgotten snob appeal. That has been taken over by Range Rover, the cereal box on wheels and re-gained by Bentley which looks pretty much (I drove alongside one last week coming back from Greenville) like that Hyundai copy of a '78 Buick.
