Yup Dean, think you got that right.

My first stereo system included a 1009 so the Dual gets a nostalgia vote.

Race ahead to today (yes, the years have flown by) and I have a SP-10 Mk 2 and SP-15, both undergoing restoration, so there is some thought to keeping it all in the Technics family.

Obviously I don't need either one but to play along I'll choose the Dual. That is based purely on styling, I always liked the "look" of the 1229.

And BTW, I'd operate either one as a singles player, not changer.
