TD125 setup continued (forevermore?)

OK... have made lots of progress. Siggen board now putting out a perfect sine wave. Adding lead to the underside of the top (cast) plate seemed to help the noise floor a lot.

Then I got the Beatles mono set and started making digital backups in Protools. I noticed a few things:

1) Excessive soft/gentle ticks between cuts;
2) Looking at the waveform between cuts I saw a bump in noise every revolution, and;
3) When I touched any metal part of the turntable, I heard a tick through the speakers.

#1 and #3 are the same - I had a bad connection for the ground wire that connects to the turntable chassis. With it properly connected, the silent part of those beautifully made LPs are pretty close to silent; at least the ticks are gone. Anyone ever had this kind of noise tied to a ground connection? It's a new one to me.

For #2, I cleaned, polished, and lubed the bearing and spindle. It was pretty bad. I'd never looked down there, figuring that if it had oil it was ok. After the cleanup, there is still a bit of noise each revolution visible in PT, but it's greatly reduced. When I blew up the scale to see the waveform of that noise, it's just about 8 Hz for 33 rpm, though its volume peaks once per revolution (bottom pic) except where it peaks every 0.62 seconds (top.) At 33, the motor spins 4.8 revs/sec. Why 8Hz? Donno - will have to think on that. (The tonearm/cartridge resonant peak is at 11Hz on the HFNRR test record.) Something to ponder - your brilliant thoughts and wild theories are most welcome.
