All ESL arms and carts were allegedly made by Ortofon. ESL was the "international" marketing name used by Elpa, the importer to the USA. Researching these vintage "brands" will show similar mono units and dissimilar stereo carts...interesting to be sure...
If you look closely at the mono carts, they use the same armature as the Ortofons, as well as the same suspension surrounding the moving post. They are worth having rebuilt; just like the similar vintage Ortofon and EMT(also made by Ortofon) mono carts...
USA made mono carts worthy of rebuilding are the Fairchild and Pickering units. Note that modern mono carts typically use .7 mil styli (official stereo size conical tip), while the vintage units will have 1 mil tips for early mono microgroove LPs; or the vintage units will have 3 mil or 2.5 mil tips for the "standard" groove 78s...ENJOY !
