Breathtaking I have to say. It's breathtaking what has made it to vinyl. I have over two dozen versions of Sergei Prokofiev's "Peter and the Wolf" from Boris Karloff to David Bowie to George Raft to Mia Farrow and Basil Rathbone. Sterling Holloway is my favorite.
When I found the version pictured I began to question why so many have been drawn to commit their voice to this wonderful work for all of eternity. Is this an audio proof of the phrase, erroneously credited to P.T.Barnum, "There's a sucker born every minute"? Is this proof positive of evil in the world?
I do like some of the versions I have been fortunate to find. George Raft's gangsta version has it's own charm. When I found the version pictured I realized that enough is enough.
No! I have not listened to it. I may never be able to listen to "Peter and the Wolf" again. Well... maybe Sterling's version. I'm cutting back. Really!
Still spinnin'...(maybe not so much Peter...)
;^)
