Late by a couple days. You know I owned the Ariston Forte with the Premier MMT, Sumiko headshell with a Goldring Eroica HO and gave that to my daughter a couple years ago. I changed the springs with Linn springs, adjusted the tonearm, used the oil dampening and placed a better Ariston Mat on the platter. I used modeling clay under the platter and around the chassis, including the motor. I also used an outboard radio shack power supply.

I thought the table sounded really nice. For some reason it's particularly excellent with Jazz and Classical. Bass is neither light nor tubby. It's quick and has good extension. For these reasons I'd happily take it over the Linn. I'm not a Linn fan, and yes I am aware of Linn and Aristons history together.

Having said all that, I'd love to put the Signet XK-50 on that table with a high compliance cartridge from the Soundsmith on it. I don't dislike the MMT, but the more I used it the less I was impressed with it. The opposite of that holds true with the XK-50. I am more impressed now than I was four years ago when I happened upon one.
