Having owned an original Scout for four years, I was very familiar with it. Mostly, I used a Dynavector 20XL cartridge which was a great match with the JMW-9. It was an excellent deck save for two areas, bass definition and overall dynamics.
Recently I heard the Scout 1.1, which is close to the Scout 2 except for a thinner alloy platter. The 1.1 was running version 2 of the same 20XL I used.
I heard a far greater than 10% improvement in the two weak areas of my original Scout. Bass definition and detail were far superior with the new Scout. As for dynamics, the Scout 1.1 really boogied, something my original Scout stubbornly refused to do. I can only assume the Scout 2 with its thicker alloy platter would be even better in these areas.
I was impressed enough that my next turntable purchase will definitely be a Scout 1.1 or 2.
